James Woods Remembers Rob Reiner After His Tragic Death
Actor James Woods has shared fond memories of his friendship with the late director Rob Reiner, noting that their bond persisted despite differing political views. He referred to Reiner as a “godsend” who played a crucial role in revitalizing his career.
During an appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Woods reflected on a challenging phase in his professional life, saying, “At a very, very low point, Rob literally saved my career and got me back on track.” He continued, expressing gratitude for Reiner’s belief in him, even when Hollywood studios were reluctant to cast him. “I was too young for the role at 32 years old, but he really believed I was right and that I could do it,” Woods explained.
Woods recalled their collaboration on the film “Mississippi Ghosts,” highlighting the significant turnaround it brought to his career—from unemployment to an Academy Award nomination. “I give Rob all the credit,” he emphasized.
Despite his conservative leanings, Woods maintained a close friendship with Reiner, who was known for his progressive views. Friends often raised eyebrows at the two’s easy rapport at social gatherings, but Woods insisted that their ideological differences never hindered their relationship. “I judge people by how they treat me. Rob Reiner was a godsend to my life,” he stated, adding that they genuinely cared for one another.
He described Reiner, famous for his role in “All in the Family,” as a “patriot” who deeply loved his country, even if their views on patriotism diverged.
Woods recounted the moment he heard about Reiner’s tragic death, stating that he was so shocked he could hardly process the news. “My friend Carol called and said, ‘Listen, I want you to hear this before it’s on the news: Rob and Michelle have been murdered,'” he recalled, admitting he momentarily struggled to grasp the information.
With deep sorrow, Woods mentioned his enduring love, respect, and admiration for Reiner.
Rob Reiner, known as an influential Hollywood director and activist, was found deceased alongside his wife, Michelle, at their home in Brentwood, California. Their son, Nick Reiner, has since been detained on murder charges and is set to appear in court soon.
