Heartbreaking Revelation from Dick Van Dyke’s Wife
Arlene Silver, the wife of Dick Van Dyke, shared her emotional distress over the deaths of her friends, Rob Reiner and Michelle Singer Reiner, who were found dead in their Los Angeles home. She expressed that she “couldn’t sleep” the night the news broke.
In an emotional Instagram video on Monday, Silver described how her husband, the beloved star of “Mary Poppins,” had been closely following the news, trying to piece together what had happened.
“We spoke to Rob on the phone two weeks ago,” she recalled. She noted that both Rob, 78, and Michelle, 70, had called to wish Van Dyke well on his 100th birthday the day before the tragic discovery.
With a heavy heart, Silver mentioned that the outpouring of messages for Van Dyke’s birthday included notes from the Reiners.
Silver pointed out that Van Dyke and Rob had shared a long friendship, dating back to their teenage years. Interestingly, Rob’s father, Carl Reiner, created “The Dick Van Dyke Show” in the ’60s.
“Rob and Carl were the first people I met with Dick,” she explained, reflecting on the strong ties that connected the families. “Rob and Michelle were always together, just like Dick and I. They always made me feel like part of their family,” she added wistfully.
In light of this tragedy, Silver expressed her condolences to the Reiner family, saying, “We feel terrible for his wonderful family.” She also contemplated the impact on Carl Reiner, who passed away in June 2020, and lamented what he might have felt had he been alive to see this tragedy unfold.
Regarding the troubling arrest of Rob and Michelle’s son, Nick Reiner, on suspicion of murder, Silver remarked, “It’s terrible. They would have done everything for that kid.” She mentioned that while she hadn’t met Nick, she had encountered Rob and Michelle’s other children, Romy and Jake, who cherish their family deeply.
Despite wanting to honor her husband’s milestone birthday, Silver acknowledged the heaviness of the situation, stating her struggle to reconcile the joy of celebration with the grief of loss.
Rob and Michelle were last seen publicly at a Christmas party hosted by Conan O’Brien. It was reported that Nick had a loud argument with Rob that evening, leading to the shocking events of the next day when their bodies were discovered.
