Trump promises to endorse final Ukraine peace agreement following meeting with Zelenskyy

Trump and Zelensky Discuss Peace Efforts in Ukraine

President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to finalize a peace agreement to resolve the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This statement comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to present a new peace initiative during a meeting on Sunday.

Trump mentioned to Politico, “He doesn’t have anything until I approve it. So let’s see what he has.”

Zelensky, speaking with reporters, indicated he would meet Trump in Florida to share a 20-point peace plan for consideration. He pointed out that the discussions would likely center around Ukraine’s security, although it remains uncertain whether issues related to territory will be part of the conversation.

“The 20-point plan we have been working on is 90% ready,” he said. “Our task is to make sure everything is 100% ready. It will not be easy, and no one said it would be 100% right away, but we still have to progress with each of these meetings and conversations,” Zelensky added.

While the White House has not commented specifically on the upcoming meeting, Trump has expressed confidence about the potential outcomes of his discussions, stating, “I think it’s going to work out well with him. I think it’s going to work out well with [Vladimir] Putin,” and mentioned he plans to meet with Putin soon.

In November, Trump had stated he wouldn’t meet with either Zelensky or Putin unless a deal was reached to end the war. However, Zelensky has indicated that constructive progress is being made, citing “very good conversations” with U.S. officials about strategies to achieve lasting peace.

Trump has previously met Zelensky multiple times during his presidency, including a notable encounter in February where tensions flared over diplomatic engagement with Russia. Furthermore, he met Putin in Alaska back in August.
