Trump Proposes Marble Armrests for Kennedy Center
President Donald Trump has hinted at the installation of new marble armrests for the seats at the Trump Kennedy Center. He shared a photo of the armrest on Truth Social, proclaiming, “It’s unlike anything that’s ever been done or seen before!”
Since Trump took office in January, the performing arts center has seen a number of changes. Recently, the board of directors voted to rename the venue the Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Performing Arts Center. Before this, Trump replaced several board members and appointed himself as chairman. The name change has sparked both praise and controversy, with Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), a former board member, filing a lawsuit against it.
The lawsuit asserts, “The board’s proposed renaming of the Kennedy Center violates federal law. By law, Congress named this center the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Under our constitutional system, only Congress can amend statutes.” Beatty emphasized that this change is an attempt to satisfy Trump’s vanity while ignoring existing laws.
Moreover, a jazz concert planned for Christmas Eve at the Kennedy Center was canceled in protest of the name change after Trump’s name was added. Alongside the marble armrest proposal, Trump also showcased a photo of the renovated Palm Room at the White House.
