California Family Revives Christmas Tradition
A family in California has brought back a cherished Christmas tradition that’s taken social media by storm.
Daniel Miller and his cousins surprised their grandparents with a special pre-Christmas night they called “Grandparents’ Christmas.”
A video shared online on December 21 has attracted 14 million views, showcasing the emotional surprise.
In the video, Miller and his wife walk into their grandparents’ home and announce, “We’re here to spend the night,” to which the grandmother responds in a sweet, surprised manner, “That’s fine, if you want to spend the night, you can spend the night.”
The footage captures moments of the family making pizza, engaging in arts and crafts, and reminiscing together.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who came,” said Miller’s grandfather, Carol Blackstock. “I’ve never felt so much love in this room. Thank you so much.”
Miller shared with Fox News Digital that the idea for the surprise came from his wife, who recently lost a grandparent. She suggested reviving this family tradition, which had dwindled over the years. “I thought, ‘Okay, let’s give it a try,'” Miller recalled.
As Miller was the first to enter, he started messaging others to join in. When more family members arrived, his grandmother asked, “Are you having a ‘grandparents’ Christmas?'” It all clicked for her in that moment.
This tradition was originally started by his grandmother, Toni Blackstock. She would hold a gathering at her home each year as Christmas approached. “Every year, she would host an event,” Miller mentioned.
Pizza-making has always been central to the event, honoring his grandmother’s Italian roots. Miller emphasized that their grandparents have always been there for them, instilling the idea that “the greatest gift you can give someone is your time.” He recalled how his grandparents were present at every family gathering, which reinforces the value of spending time together as a family.
When asked if her grandparents understood their recent internet fame, Miller noted, “They don’t know what viral means.” She reflected on how the video resonated with many, bringing joy and emotional responses from viewers.
