John Daly’s Aspirations for Ryder Cup Participation
There’s a push for something significant to happen, not just for John Daly, but also for golf and the country.
John Daly has secured five wins on the PGA Tour and celebrated two major championships, marking some truly exhilarating moments in golf. Yet, throughout his career, he hasn’t had the chance to represent the United States in an international team setting.
Now at 59, Daly is left as the only two-time major champion who hasn’t made it to a Ryder Cup team. Still, he is eager to contribute to this prestigious event, which takes place every two years, and hopes it could happen soon.
Given that he’s never played in a Ryder Cup, it’s unlikely that Daly would be considered among potential captains for the U.S. team. Nevertheless, he expressed interest in serving as a vice-captain. In a chat with Hard Rock Bet, he highlighted the 2027 Ryder Cup, set for Ireland, as a perfect chance for him to be involved.
Daly also showed his support for Tiger Woods as a captain for Team USA at the 2027 event, a speculation that has been circulating for a while now.
“I would love to be captain one day, though I know that’s probably not going to happen. But Tiger would be an incredible captain. I’d be thrilled to be a vice-captain or participate in some capacity,” Daly mentioned.
“I feel like I should have made two teams, but it didn’t come together. I didn’t perform well enough back then. Still, being part of the Ryder Cup, even as a vice-captain or just being there, is something I would cherish deeply,” he added.
“I’d enjoy watching, sharing my thoughts, and supporting the players. This experience would mean so much to me, especially since I’ve dreamed of being part of it since winning the PGA Championship in 1991… just to wear something representing the Stars and Stripes,” Daly continued.
“Honestly, I’m not into receiving gifts. For me, it’s about playing for the American flag, which fuels our team’s effort, similar to the commitment shown by European players.”
Imagining John Daly at the Ryder Cup is intriguing; golf is unpredictable, but the idea definitely stirs excitement.
