Miranda Lambert is bidding farewell to a cherished companion.
The 42-year-old country musician took to Instagram on Sunday to let her fans know that her beloved rescue dog, Cher, passed away on Saturday at the age of 15.
Long known for her advocacy for animal rights, Lambert honored her late Chihuahua, who has been a part of her life and career for many years, during red carpet events and tours.
In her Instagram post, Lambert shared a photo of a merry-go-round, captioning it: “Our sweet bear Cher crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday,” and included pictures of Cher with both herself and her husband, Brendan McLaughlin. “Cher gave us 15 years of love and all the Chihuahua attitude and energy she had to give. And if you’ve ever had a Chi Chi, you’ll understand.”
Lambert recounted that she adopted Cher from a shelter in 2010 when she was just ten weeks old, recalling how she tucked the tiny pup into her overalls pocket. Cher’s first big outing was at the Academy of Country Music Awards that same year, where she joined Lambert on the red carpet and in the press room. “She’s been on every tour I’ve done since then,” Lambert expressed, thanking Cher for all the memories they created together.
Lambert, who is married to McLaughlin, has a strong passion for animal rescue and mentioned the difficult journey of losing several animals over the years. “When I met Brendan seven years ago, I was the mother of nine shelter dogs, and now I’m down to one,” she noted. “I think we’re all looking to heal from heartbreak, but those tears we shed are worth every moment. Animals bring us so much joy, and I just wish their time with us lasted longer.”
In a private ceremony in January 2019, Lambert tied the knot with McLaughlin, sharing the news in an Instagram post on Valentine’s Day. “I wanted to share some news,” she wrote. “I met the love of my life and we got married! My heart is so full. Thank you, Brendan McLoughlin, for loving me.”
Previously, Lambert was married to country singer Blake Shelton from 2011 to 2015.
