"Leave Immediately": Employee at Somali Daycare Yells at Reporter for Inquiring

Controversy at Somali Day Care Center in Minnesota

An employee at a Somali day care center in Minnesota reacted strongly when a reporter from the New York Post misspelled her name and inquired about claims of fraud.

A viral video shared by YouTuber Nick Shirley highlights allegations that several taxpayer-funded childcare centers managed by Somalis in the state are not providing services. An employee from the Center for Learning Quality, which ironically misspelled “learning,” confronted the reporter who was seeking answers about the fraud allegations at the center.

The reporter directly asked, “What is your reaction to this allegation? Is there fraud going on here?”

In response, the employee harshly told the reporter to “Get out of here,” declining to answer any questions.

Shirley found that while the center was licensed for 99 children, it seemed to be inactive. He noted that in 2025, the center received $1.9 million, totaling $4 million in funding from the Minnesota Parent Care Assistance Program (CCAP).

Ali Ibrahim, the owner’s son, explained that Shirley visited the center outside of regular hours, suggesting that someone entered the building after hours and falsely claimed to be operating despite being closed.

On the other hand, Tikki Brown, the director of the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families, stated that investigations into these centers did not uncover any misconduct.

National attention has lately focused on allegations of extensive fraud involving Somalis in Minnesota. In December, federal prosecutors charged numerous individuals, many of whom are Somali-American, with misappropriating over $9 billion in federal funds intended for social programs, including those that support needy children.

A total of 78 individuals were indicted, having stolen more than $350 million from the federal child nutrition program, known as Feeding Our Future.

Following Shirley’s documentary, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced that he would investigate the facilities to address the fraud issue. However, some state officials have criticized Walz for allegedly disregarding “rules and laws designed to silence fraud reports,” suggesting he bears some responsibility for the situation.
