Eric Adams will go to Zohran Mamdani's inauguration after weeks of uncertainty

Mayor Eric Adams has announced that he will attend the inauguration of his successor, Zoran Mamdani, scheduled for Thursday.

In a conversation on The Cats & Cosby Show, Adams shared that he had talked with the Socialist Party congressman from Queens—marking their first joint appearance despite their rivalry.

Adams stated, “We got in touch this afternoon, and he made it clear that he wants me to be there. I want to be there as well to show a smooth and peaceful transition of power. We both understand how crucial that is,” he told hosts John Catsimatidis and Rita Cosby.

He added, “I just wanted to make sure, as I mentioned to him, ‘We don’t want to disrupt this significant moment in history.’ Mamdani replied, ‘No, Eric…I’d be happy to see you there.’”

Recently, Adams had been hesitant about breaking tradition by canceling the mayor-elect’s welcome party at City Hall, and he was unclear about his attendance on Thursday.

This past Monday, the moderate Democrat had expressed uncertainty about going, especially since Mamdani’s supporters were “protesting everything.”

Earlier this year, the one-term mayor decided to step back from a high-profile re-election attempt and made a late effort to back former Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Adams, who has consistently supported Israel, has criticized the Democratic Socialists of America and pro-Palestinian activists. In contrast, Mamdani is a committed DSA member and a vocal advocate for Palestine.
