On his last day in office, New York City Mayor Eric Adams took to social media to share some memorable quotes, reading from a coffee mug that had been given to him by one of his staff members. He humorously described it as “his biggest hit.”
As he attempted to read the quotes aloud, laughter punctuated his delivery. One saying he shared was, “Sometimes I wake up in the morning and look at myself and hold my finger up to myself; stay focused, don’t get distracted, put in the effort.” He added, “It’s not what’s in the tweets, it’s what’s out there.”
He recounted, “‘There are two types of Americans: those who live in New York and those who want to live in New York.’ He mentioned being arrested and voted down but ultimately becoming elected, humorously saying, ‘I look like Gandhi.’ He concluded with, ‘Every morning I wake up and turn on the GPS, God’s positioning satellite.’ Bringing that mug back, let’s go!”
In a heartfelt post on X, he expressed gratitude to his City Hall team for the send-off, stating, “It was an honor, New York!” Adams was inaugurated as the 110th mayor on January 1, 2022, after serving previously as the Brooklyn Borough president and a New York State senator.
Looking ahead, Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani, a socialist who will succeed Adams, is set to be sworn in. He’ll make history as New York City’s first Muslim mayor, taking his oath on the Koran in a private ceremony at an old subway station, followed by a public celebration.
Mamdani, 34 and originally from Uganda, is already making headlines, with some concerns from community leaders about his stance regarding certain issues. In another note, on his last day in office, Adams claimed his administration had worked towards a “safer and more affordable city.”
It remains uncertain if coffee mugs featuring Adams will become available to the public.
