Former Mayor Lightfoot Critiques Border Patrol Official

On December 31, 2025, former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot publicly criticized U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory K. Bovino’s comments on social media, labeling them as unconstitutional and shameful. In her response, she ominously warned him about a looming “day of reckoning.”

Lightfoot, evidently incensed, told Bovino that his “day of reckoning is fast approaching.” She further described him as a “glory hound” who tends to “act a fool,” while accusing the Border Patrol under his direction of engaging in “unconstitutional and shameful” conduct.

“Glory hound Greg Bovino cannot resist acting a fool in the third largest media market. The actions of the CBP militia under his command have been unconstitutional and shameful. Hey, Greg, your day of reckoning is fast approaching,” she stated.

Bovino, known for calling out officials who interfere with Border Patrol operations, has become a prominent figure in the agency’s street-level enforcement against illegal immigration.

In a recent post, he also responded sharply to Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, asserting, “Don’t worry, Chicago, we will be here for YEARS! Despite calls for violence against our agents, the brave men and women of the United States Border Patrol have come together and developed serious plans to help Chicago rid their streets of criminal illegal aliens. We work for YOU.”

This week, current Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed support for the idea of naming a city snowplow “Abolish ICE.”

“‘Abolish ICE’ has my full endorsement for the name of one of Chicago’s next Snow Plows. Remember to submit your choice by January 10th, 2026!” Johnson announced in a post.

Bovino responded on Twitter with a cheeky suggestion: “Name the plow ‘Reality Check’ and paint it green while you’re at it.”

Johnson’s reply seemed to focus less on the content of Bovino’s message and more on correcting his misuse of “your,” which felt like a mild deflection from the debate at hand.
