When Donald Trump makes his anticipated return to the White House in 2025, a lot of people on the left are likely to be extremely upset. It’s hard to ignore that his emotional reactions will likely capture headlines.
In various instances, feelings ran high—there were even tears involved. This includes Trump’s confrontations with the deep state, his stance on illegal immigration, a fraud scandal linked to a Somali, and the establishment of a chapter of Turning Point USA (TPUSA). Here are eight ways that liberals have expressed their emotions in public.
April 3 – George Conway Breaks Down Over a Letter
George Conway, who identified as a member of Antifa in October, was visibly emotional discussing a letter from the granddaughter of a prominent law firm’s co-founder. She alleged that Trump was undermining the rule of law by targeting the firm in response to a March incident.
“I got watery eyes when I read that letter yesterday for the first time. It really struck me. It summed up the moral stance of this judge’s granddaughter,” he said.
June 17 and June 21 – Alex Padilla Cries Twice
California Democrat Sen. Alex Padilla had two emotional moments in June. He shed tears on the Senate floor after making a scene at a press conference led by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and getting escorted out.
Just four days later, he cried when Vice President J.D. Vance mistakenly called him “Jose,” erroneously linking him to a notorious al-Qaeda suspect. A spokesperson for Vance later clarified that there was a mix-up.
Padilla expressed frustration, saying, “You’d expect the Vice President to take issues in Los Angeles seriously and actually engage with affected families on the ground.”
July 2 – Tears Over Legislation
On July 2, as Congress hurried back to D.C. to vote on what was termed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Rep. Brittany Pettersen of Colorado was visibly upset about having to weigh in on the legislation.
“It’s tough to hold back tears as I think about how detrimental this bill is for families,” she tweeted.
August 26 – Tears Over Detention Centers
When Florida hurriedly set up an ICE detention facility for illegal immigrants, Millie Herrera, a delegate with the Democratic National Committee, expressed her outrage.
“I refuse to call it Alligator Alcatraz. The treatment of immigrants is simply inhumane,” she said, emphasizing that even legal residents are being unjustly detained.
October 9 – School Board Member’s Tearful Apology
Allison Vick Spielman, a school board member in Albemarle County, Virginia, found herself in tears after facing backlash for comparing TPUSA to the KKK. She was emotional discussing this on October 9.
“It’s been a challenging week for me and all involved. I want to clarify my intentions and what we plan to do next,” she shared, holding back tears.
November 13 – Parents Upset Over TPUSA Approval
After a chapter of TPUSA was sanctioned at a Michigan high school, several liberal parents approached the school board in tears, worried about the implications for students.
“Does this signal to marginalized communities that schools aren’t safe anymore?” asked Kim Johnson, visibly distressed.
December 12 – Democrats Apologize to Somalis
The scale of welfare fraud in Minnesota has raised concerns, with investigations started to see if funds went to a terrorist group in Somalia. In a mosque, Democratic Sen. Ann Johnson Stewart broke down while addressing Somalis about the investigation.
“We are here to support you, regardless of where you live,” a tearful Stewart stated in a video, emphasizing inclusiveness.
