Diamond District Brawl Sparks Heated Accusations
A jeweler from the New York City Diamond District has harshly criticized his competitors, calling them “fucking losers” amid claims that a recent brawl was triggered by his confrontation over alleged customer fraud. This incident gained attention after a video showing him being attacked went viral.
Maqsud Aghajani, the owner of TraxNYC, recounted how the altercation unfolded on Friday. It involved him and brothers George and Freddie Akai, who had just sold a diamond bracelet worth $22,000 to a client. Aghajani believes they misled the buyer into thinking it was a piece from his store.
Having clients like YouTube star Mr. Beast and rappers Kodak Black and Busta Rhymes, Aghajani described the confrontation to the Sunday Post, labeling the Akai brothers as envious of his success and notorious for trying to poach his customers.
“This family was a loser family who were jealous of my success as a jeweler and were constantly trying to steal customers by claiming to be them,” he stated during a phone interview.
According to Aghajani, the situation escalated after a customer confronted him about the expensive bracelet on New Year’s Eve, leading to a dispute over a refund. “I gave the man money and went to war,” Aghajani remarked.
The proximity of their booths on West 47th Street didn’t help matters. Aghajani claimed that when he approached the Akai brothers to discuss the issue, they refused to cooperate.
“I decided to expose their fraud and they tried to kill me for it,” he added, referring to the shocking video he shared on social media.
The footage captures the moment Aghajani stormed into the Akai Diamonds booth, demanding answers. “Where’s my money, you mother?” he can be heard yelling, banging the counter with a bracelet in front of surprised customers.
His frustration escalated as he shouted, “What are you going to do with it?!” to the brothers. He accused them of using his name and called them thieves, showcasing a receipt as guards eventually escorted him away.
Another clip revealed one of the Akai brothers spitting in Aghajani’s face, which triggered a chaotic scuffle resulting in Aghajani being struck. His claims about the fight included, “Freddie strangled me and George threw a scale at my head,” with relatives of the brothers also stating they were involved in the fracas.
Aghajani noted that staff intervened to help him, saying he might have been seriously harmed if they hadn’t. “If they hadn’t come, I would have been strangled,” he expressed.
The Akai brothers were later arrested and charged with assault following the incident.
Aghajani, who was taken to Bellevue Hospital, posted a video showing injuries on his neck from the altercation. He expressed a strong desire to avoid any future encounters with the brothers and stated his intention to sue them.
“They could have solved the problem by just giving me back the shitty money I gave back to the customers,” he remarked. “They are greedy animals and would rather ruin their entire jewelry business and career.”
The Akai brothers could not be reached for comment following the events.
