Jimmy Kimmel Critiques Trump at Critics Choice Awards
During Sunday’s Critics Choice Awards, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel took the opportunity to make a pointed jab at President Donald Trump after winning for best talk show.
Kimmel quipped, “The FIFA Peace Prize was better, but this is a good thing,” while referencing Trump being awarded the FIFA Peace Prize by FIFA President Gianni Infantino back in December. He expressed gratitude with, “Most of all, I want to thank our President, Donald Jennifer Trump. Without him, we would be going home empty-handed tonight.”
He continued, “Mr. President, thank you for doing so many ridiculous things every day.” Kimmel also remarked that he’s excited to return to the air and discuss the award further in his upcoming episode, wrapping up with thanks to the audience.
Although his show faced suspension in September 2025 due to comments about Charlie Kirk, Kimmel made a quick comeback shortly thereafter.
Emotional Acknowledgments
In his speech, he didn’t just stop with Trump; he took a moment to thank his wife and the production team. He also highlighted the collective effort of his late-night colleagues, expressing appreciation for those who stood by him during his suspension. “Your actions mattered and we appreciate it,” he emphasized.
This came alongside remarks about the support from writers, actors, producers, and union members, emphasizing the importance of free speech in their industry.
In his last episode of the year, Kimmel reflected on the challenges of 2025, sharing an emotional parting message. “It’s been a tough year—with highs and lows, more than I’ve seen in my life,” he admitted. His gratitude felt sincere, noting the difference the audience had made in their lives, saying, “You literally pulled us out of a hole this year.”
Though Kimmel maintained a mostly light tone, he subtly critiqued President Trump, stating, “There is still more good than bad in this country.” He hoped the audience would keep pushing through these “insane” times, wishing happiness for everyone during the holidays, regardless of their traditions.
