Harvard Dean Removed Following Controversial Posts
Harvard University’s resident dean has been dismissed after past social media activity came back into the spotlight. The Harvard Crimson reported that Gregory Davis, who until recently served as the Dunster House Allston Barr Resident Dean, faced backlash over posts that criticized police, called out “whiteness,” and even speculated about the death of former President Donald Trump.
Davis had a history of disparaging conservative views on social media, even though he positioned himself as “open and inclusive.” His controversial remarks, including a post urging people to “love each other and hate the police,” highlighted a more divisive stance. Additionally, he shared a rather grim meme referring to Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis and made several comparisons between the former president and Hitler.
In one notable post from 2019, he discussed “whiteness” and claimed it was a self-destructive ideology that harms everyone involved. This comment seemed to directly respond to a Time article suggesting that Republicans seek a white-dominated society.
Davis also expressed that “Black people have a unique and often authoritative view of what racism is.” He criticized the treatment of non-English names, claiming it reflected white supremacy. During the intense Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, he controversially asserted that “rioting and looting are just as much a part of democracy as voting and marching,” insisting that people’s voices deserved to be heard.
As of now, his social media account appears private, following scrutiny last October. Emily Raymer has been appointed as the interim resident dean at Dunster House while the university has not commented on the situation.
