Police Rescue 11-Year-Old Victim in Florida
A chilling video reveals a police response to a regular traffic stop in Florida, which unexpectedly became a rescue operation for an alleged kidnapping victim. The incident resulted in the apprehension of the suspect.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office reported that a white Ford F-150 was pulled over on U.S. Highway 1 following a 911 call about concerning activity. Upon investigation, officers found a 60-year-old man named Darnell Hairston and two minors in the vehicle.
“We had a caller who was aware of his background as a sex offender with two children in the truck. Without this tip, we could have been dealing with a much graver situation,” said Sheriff Rick Staley.
When questioned separately, an 11-year-old boy revealed that Hairston had kidnapped him and expressed fear for his life. “He told us he thought he was going to be killed,” Staley added.
Body cam footage captured the moment officers subdued Hairston, as the 15-year-old boy passenger attempted to drive away, almost running over an officer’s feet. The chase ensued with Hairston colliding into a police cruiser and another truck.
Authorities indicated that the 11-year-old had been missing for three days and was later treated at a hospital. The boy recounted a horrifying story where he was allegedly lured to a campsite, suffocated until unconscious, then bound with duct tape, an extension cord, and shoelaces. He claimed he was threatened with both a knife and a gun.
During transport, investigators found that the boy was forced to hide under a blanket on the truck’s floor. A search of Hairston’s vehicle, home, and campsite led to the recovery of duct tape, weapons, and surveillance equipment, which corroborated the victim’s account.
Both boys were reportedly part of a Snapchat group where the 11-year-old warned others about Hairston’s criminal past.
Hairston now faces multiple serious charges, including kidnapping, aggravated child abuse, and assault. He was originally arrested for attempting to interfere with a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
The 15-year-old is currently in custody, facing several charges, and is being considered a potential co-conspirator in the incident.
Hairston is being held without bail at the Perry Hall Sheriff Detention Center, and it is possible that further charges may be filed against him.
