Texas Representative Reacts to Supreme Court Upholding Redistricting
Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett expressed strong discontent with the Supreme Court’s recent decision to support Texas’ new congressional districts. In a video shared on her YouTube channel, Crockett voiced her concerns about claims that President Trump and the Republican Party are attempting to manipulate the system through redistricting ahead of the 2026 midterms.
“It’s clear that Mr. Trump is still collaborating with the state legislature, the state senate, and the governor’s office to manipulate the system,” she said. She also praised efforts by states like Indiana and California, which are pushing back against these tactics.
Crockett noted, “I definitely commend Judge Trump for devising a 160-page opinion condemning what took place in Texas. Now, let’s see how this unfolds elsewhere.” Last December, the Supreme Court decided to maintain Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s redistricted districts for the upcoming elections, which could result in five additional Republican House seats.
Interestingly, the new congressional map would displace Crockett from her current district, a situation some speculate may have prompted her to announce her Senate candidacy shortly after the ruling.
In the face of Texas’ redistricting, California’s Governor Gavin Newsom proposed a voting plan that aims to create five more districts leaning Democratic. Meanwhile, Indiana’s Republican-led Senate declined to vote on a new map that could have secured two more seats for the party.
In her video, Crockett called for further Supreme Court reforms, referencing her experience with the 2024 Court Reform Task Force, which considered ideas like term limits and expanding the court’s size.
She expressed her concerns saying, “There are definitely issues of injustice within the Supreme Court. To better our democracy, we really need to strengthen our checks and balances, starting with the Supreme Court.”
