California Congressman Doug LaMalfa Passes Away at 65
California Congressman Doug LaMalfa has sadly died at the age of 65, as confirmed by multiple Republican lawmakers on Tuesday morning.
LaMalfa, a fourth-generation rice farmer, represented California’s 1st Congressional District, primarily an agricultural area in Northern California. His commitment to public service spanned over two decades, having served first as a state representative and then as a Congressman from 2013 until 2026.
The details surrounding his cause of death remain undisclosed at this time.
In the wake of this sudden loss, many of LaMalfa’s colleagues took to social media to share their shock and condolences for his family.
“Jackie and I are heartbroken by the sudden passing of our friend Rep. Doug LaMalfa,” said House Majority Leader Tom Emmer from Minnesota. He added that LaMalfa was a devoted father and husband, as well as a passionate advocate for his constituents and rural America. Emmer expressed that his thoughts are with Doug’s wife Jill and their children during this tough time.
North Carolina Congressman Richard Hudson, also the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, reminisced about his friendship with LaMalfa. “I am profoundly saddened by the loss of my colleague and dear friend, Congressman Doug LaMalfa,” Hudson stated. “He was a principled conservative, a dedicated advocate for the people of Northern California, and he never hesitated to fight for rural communities, farmers, and working families. Doug brought grit, integrity, and conviction to everything he did in public service.”
Currently, the House holds a majority of 218 Republicans and 213 Democrats.
