Possible Pelosi replacement urges impeachment regarding Venezuela's unlawful takeover

San Francisco Democrats Advocate for President’s Impeachment Over Venezuela Decisions

In a recent statement, California Senator Scott Wiener has called for the impeachment of President Trump, accusing him of orchestrating a “coup” against Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. This comes after Maduro’s arrest and extradition to New York, an action Wiener claims is driven by Trump’s motives to benefit his financial backers, rather than any genuine concern for the impact on people or economies.

Wiener, recognized for his progressive stances—like California being designated a “refuge” state for transgender minors—has often caught national attention. He made a noteworthy comment during San Francisco Pride Month, referring to California’s youth as “our children.”

He expressed strong condemnation of the Trump administration’s actions, describing the arrest as an illegal escalation not just in Venezuela, but also linked to China’s ambitions in Taiwan and Russia’s involvement in Ukraine. He suggested that this maneuver serves to distract from domestic issues, particularly Trump’s dwindling poll numbers and the ongoing scrutiny related to Jeffrey Epstein.

“Trump is a complete failure,” he declared, emphasizing that such reckless actions jeopardize global safety. He criticized the Trump administration for ignoring laws and norms, operating solely on what benefits them personally.

In response, the White House defended its strategy, asserting that the moves against Maduro were lawful and part of a broader fight against drug trafficking. White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly challenged Democrats for allegedly supporting indicted individuals and maintained that Trump’s actions provide closure for victims associated with drug trafficking.

Supporters of the operation pointed to recent moves by a pro-Maduro court that effectively blocked the opposition leader from participating in elections, countering claims of a “regime change” that critics like Wiener have made.

“The reality is, this isn’t just about Maduro being a bad actor,” Wiener added. “The invasion revolves around oil interests and Trump’s declining support back home.”

Several Democrats nationwide have echoed calls for impeachment, but Wiener has notably been one of the most vocal. Maryland Representative April McClain Delaney stated that immediate consideration for impeachment should be taken. She criticized Trump’s actions as lacking congressional authority and attempted to exert a form of governance beyond constitutional limits.

Representative Maxine Waters, recalling her past calls for impeachment, voiced concerns about the president’s overreach, suggesting that there might be grounds for renewed discussion on impeachment given the current situation.

While Wiener’s position in the upcoming primary remains pivotal, there are other candidates who have taken steps to challenge him, notably San Francisco City Councilmember Connie Chung.
