Trump Warns GOP About Midterms and Impeachment Risks
In a recent address, President Donald Trump cautioned House Republicans that if they don’t maintain control during the upcoming 2026 midterms, they could face a third impeachment. He urged party members to secure a strong victory this November to protect his “America First” agenda and limit what he sees as Democrat overreach.
“You got to win the midterms, because if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just going to be — I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me,” he warned during a speech at a House Republican retreat. “I’ll get impeached.”
He continued, “We don’t impeach them. You know why? Because they’re meaner than we are. We should have impeached Joe Biden for 100 different things.”
During his talk at the Trump-Kennedy Center, Trump highlighted the importance of the midterms, which will determine if the GOP keeps control of both chambers of Congress. In November, all House members and about a third of the Senate are up for reelection.
Trump, who faced impeachment twice during his initial term, emphasized that despite the impeachments, he was never removed from office or barred from future elections. He was first impeached in 2019 for allegedly pressuring Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, and then again in 2021 for actions tied to the Capitol protest on January 6th. He insists that these processes were merely partisan attacks.
At the retreat, Trump optimistically noted that many unpopular Democrat policies seem to alienate average voters.
“But when they want open borders, when they want, as they said, men in women’s sports, when they want transgender [policies] for everyone,” he remarked, mimicking a Democrat official suggesting extreme measures regarding children. “We have great, solid common sense policy. They [Democrats] have horrendous policy. What they do is they stick together. They never have a no vote.”
Referring to his 2025 achievements against pharmaceutical companies, Trump vowed to apply similar pressure on health insurance leaders to lower costs for American families. He criticized industry leaders as “fat cats” who have profited excessively.
“Let the money go not to the big fat cats and the insurance companies that made 1,700% over the last short period of time. Let the money go directly to the people where they can buy their own health care,” he stated. “In a few days, I’m meeting with them [U.S. health insurance companies] all, 14 companies. I’m meeting with them all.”
In light of the recent capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, Trump also shared that he plans to meet with major oil executives to discuss ramping up drilling in Venezuela. He believes this could help decrease oil prices for U.S. consumers.
“I’m also meeting with oil companies … We got a lot of oil to drill, which is going to bring down oil prices even further,” he added.
The White House is set to welcome executives from Exxon Mobil, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips later this week to discuss these efforts.
Should Democrats regain control in 2027, there are expectations they might launch inquiries into the Trump administration and President Trump’s business dealings. Following the recent military operation in Venezuela, Representative Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) suggested that these actions could lead to potential grounds for impeachment.
“Today, many Democrats have understandably questioned whether impeachment is possible again under the current political reality,” she noted. “I am reconsidering that view. Even if Republicans refuse to act, Democrats cannot remain silent or passive in the face of actions this extreme from this Administration.”
