Bo Bichette received a tempting proposal to stay in Toronto.
The 27-year-old was offered a lifetime supply of free steaks from a local restaurant if he chose to re-sign with the Blue Jays.
Animul, an upscale steakhouse located in downtown Toronto, made their offer known through a social media post on Monday, indicating they would “take care of dinner” if he remained in the city.
The message read: “Dear Beau Bichette, Toronto is the perfect fit. The city, the energy, the fans—everything aligns. It’s like a perfectly cooked steak. At Animul, we believe in lasting commitments: craft, compassion, and the city we all call home.”
They further stated, “In that spirit, we ask you to re-sign with the Toronto Blue Jays and consider this our promise: Steak for life. No negotiations, no fine print, just standing reservations at our table. Stay in Toronto, we’ll handle dinner; you focus on the hardware.”
Bichette, now a free agent attracting interest from several teams, hasn’t responded to Animul’s generous offer yet. However, he has previously mentioned that the restaurant is one of his favorites in Toronto.
Speculation has been rampant since he entered free agency, with reports indicating that the Yankees are among the latest teams showing interest in the infielder.
Throughout his MLB career, Bichette has mostly played shortstop but recently expressed a willingness to transition to second base to better meet team needs, as noted by MLB’s Mark Feinsand.
Feinsand remarked, “The shortstop market has been tough, but teams don’t necessarily see Bichette as strictly a shortstop anymore. He’s starting to convey that he’d be open to playing second base.”
He concluded the previous season with a strong performance, proving himself as one of the game’s leading shortstops, having batted .311 with a .357 on-base percentage and .483 slugging percentage, alongside 44 doubles and 94 RBIs in 139 games.
