Incident Involving Federal Agents and Protester
A woman was shot in the face and killed after she reportedly drove her car towards a federal agent, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Initially, a protester stated that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers shot the woman as she attempted to escape in her vehicle.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin responded to these allegations, asserting that they were inaccurate. “Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were executing a targeted operation when a mob intervened. One individual armed in his car tried to run over a law enforcement officer, which McLaughlin labeled as an act of domestic terrorism,” she explained on social media.
She further noted that the ICE officers acted defensively, fearing for their lives and public safety. “He utilized his training to protect himself and his partner,” she added. The alleged attacker was struck and succumbed to her injuries, while the injured ICE officer is expected to recover.
Local reports indicated that after the shooting, anti-ICE protesters began shouting at law enforcement officers attempting to secure the area.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey quickly demanded that all ICE agents leave the city following the incident. “I am aware of an ICE officer-involved shooting at 34th Street and Portland,” he stated online. “The presence of federal immigration enforcement agents is creating chaos in our cities. We insist on the immediate removal of ICE from our community. We stand united against our immigrant and refugee communities.”
McLaughlin attributed the shooting to the anti-ICE rhetoric, claiming, “This is a direct outcome of the incessant attacks and demonization of police by politicians who nurture and provoke violence against law enforcement.” She mentioned an alarming rise in assaults and death threats against officers.
This is an ongoing story.
