In a tragic incident in Georgia, a U.S. military veteran is accused of fatally shooting a father of three following an argument about a parking space at a Target.
Matthew Traywick was shot in the parking area of a Savannah store and later succumbed to his injuries at Memorial Health University Medical Center, as reported by local news.
Tyler Edward Lin, 30, an Army veteran, was arrested at the scene shortly after the shooting took place around 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Lin had served in the military from August 2015 to October 2023 and was based at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah. He faces charges of murder and aggravated assault.
Currently, Lin is held at the Chatham County Detention Center, although information regarding his court date remains unavailable.
The altercation that led to Traywick’s death reportedly began over a dispute regarding a parking space, as shared on social media by Savannah Mayor Van Johnson.
“Our community is in mourning. It’s disheartening to see a disagreement escalate to violence,” the mayor noted in his post.
In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Traywick’s widow, Mikayla, and their three children. The initiative has successfully raised over $140,000 towards the intended $160,000 goal.
The fundraiser highlights that, amid their grief, the family is contending with immediate financial burdens and an uncertain future without Matt’s presence.
“The donations will assist with emergency costs and create a support system for Mikayla and her kids as they begin to navigate life without him,” the appeal stated.
Following the news of Traywick’s passing, Bayden Automotive, where he was employed, expressed their condolences.
“Matthew was a cherished member of our team for many years. Our thoughts are with his family during this incredibly tough time,” the dealership shared.
