Brigitte Bardot Passed Away Following Surgery for Cancer

Brigitte Bardot’s Passing

Brigitte Bardot’s husband has shared that the iconic actress passed away from cancer following two surgical procedures. Bernard Dolmare mentioned that she endured intense back pain, making her uncomfortable even while resting in bed. He added, with a hint of tenderness, that she remained conscious of and concerned about animal welfare right until the end.

Bardot, who lived to be 91, died on December 28 at her home in southern France. The funeral was slated to be a private affair in Saint-Tropez on January 7, complemented by a public memorial service at the Cote d’Azur resort where she resided for over five decades.

The memorial was held at Notre Dame de l’Assomption Catholic Church, drawing together her loved ones to bid farewell to one of the most photographed women in history—a true emblem of the 1960s. The gathering was intimate, with attendees handpicked by family and the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for Animal Protection.

Interestingly, the ceremony was broadcasted live on large screens within Saint-Tropez’s port and nearby squares, so locals and fans could join the remembrance from a distance.

Bardot’s burial contrasted sharply with her glamorous life. City Hall announced that she would be interred “with strict secrecy” in a cemetery overlooking the Mediterranean, reflecting her desire for privacy, a wish she sought when she first moved to that area.

Before the burial, City Hall referred to Bardot as the town’s “most illustrious ambassador,” stating that her presence had left a lasting mark on Saint-Tropez.

After departing from acting in 1973, Bardot sought peace in Saint-Tropez, steering clear of the limelight that once celebrated her as an enduring symbol of allure. In her retirement, she devoted herself to the cause of animal welfare, a legacy that many will cherish.
