Egor Demin’s Dramatic Performance Against the Magic
Egor Demin found his rhythm late in the fourth quarter during Wednesday’s overtime game against the Magic. Initially, he didn’t take a shot until he sank a 3-pointer with just 1:46 remaining in regulation.
However, that was just the beginning. With only 5.6 seconds left on the clock, he made another three to tie the game, pushing it into overtime.
In the extra period, the 19-year-old rookie managed to hit three additional 3-pointers, the final one landing with 5.3 seconds remaining to give the Nets a brief two-point advantage.
While Demin’s performance was impressive, it was overshadowed by Paolo Banchero’s game-winning shot at the buzzer. Still, his late-game heroics might indicate a bright future for him and the expectations surrounding the Nets.
“I’ve seen him make those shots in tight situations before,” said coach Jordi Fernandez, noting Demin’s confidence in his shooting. “There’s a belief in him to nail those shots.”
The Nets are eager for more displays like Wednesday’s from Demin. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time he has turned things around after a rocky start to a game.
After the game, Demin mentioned that maintaining his momentum throughout the match helped him shake off his earlier slump. “I’ve always felt comfortable growing in high-pressure moments. Even if the game is tough, it feels easier to find energy toward the end,” he reflected.
Coming off a win against Denver, the Nets were looking to replicate their performance against Orlando at Barclays Center, in search of a second consecutive home victory.
Some skepticism surrounded the decision to draft Demin at No. 8, particularly regarding his shooting ability. Yet, there were no doubts about his playmaking, as many regarded him as one of the top passers in the draft.
His shooting may still be inconsistent, but what stands out is his ability to capitalize on pivotal moments.
Fernandez believes this quality will remain valuable as the season progresses. “Special players can forget their early missteps,” he pointed out.
He further added, “At just 19 years old, and as a rookie, he can deliver in the crucial moments. Opponents will apply more pressure on him, but he’s clever enough to use that to his advantage.”
There’s certainly ample room for development in Demin’s game. “We have a lot to work on with him. His potential is exceptionally high, but the ability to shine in clutch situations is innate, and he possesses it.”
In other news, Michael Porter Jr. was added to the injury report ahead of Friday’s game against the Clippers due to potential knee pain. The Nets have struggled recently, losing four out of five games since their season-high three-game winning streak. They are set to begin a three-game road trip starting Sunday in Memphis and currently hold one of the worst records in the league.
