Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s Controversial Senate Bid
Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett (D) is gaining media attention as she prepares to run for the Senate, but her recent appearance on “The View” has raised some eyebrows for the wrong reasons.
While discussing her candidacy, the host remarked, “Because she’s running for the Senate here in Texas, and she’s going to fail miserably there. And then she appeared on everyone’s favorite daytime talk show, ‘The View.'” They posed a rather fair question about her motivations.
When asked why she was so invested in the Texas Senate race, Crockett’s reply was basically, “because I’m black.” She added, “We’re also a majority-minority state. So for everyone, it’s like, ‘Well, she’s running for the Senate, and she’s black.’ Yes, that’s right. I am … Texas has more African Americans than any other state,” she proudly stated.
Gonzalez, another host, responded with a hint of sarcasm, saying, “This is the first time I’ve heard you say you’re black, Jasmine. I never knew you were black except for all the times I’ve led with the fact that you’re a black woman.”
She further suggested that Crockett’s identity seems to hinge solely on being an independent black woman who doesn’t need a man. Gonzalez expressed skepticism about Crockett’s ability to galvanize Texas voters, despite her race.
“President Trump won Texas in 2024, which was unprecedented since 2012,” Gonzalez explained, highlighting that it was a significant victory margin. She pointed out that, while a majority of Black voters supported Kamala Harris, they represented only 11% of the total votes cast. “There are more black people living in Texas than anywhere else. They’re not voting,” she noted.
Gonzalez continued, pondering if Crockett really believes she can inspire enough black voters to head to the polls. Crockett, meanwhile, has been reluctant to disclose her campaign’s voter count results.
“What I did was I evaluated the numbers. If you look at the numbers, it’s clear we can win,” Crockett claimed on the show, trying to bolster her position. “Let me be clear: a lot of people aren’t putting their numbers up. And I’m not putting my numbers up because I keep playing for good reason,” she explained.
Crockett added that she shared her data with the “front runners” of the race, claiming they decided to “step aside” after seeing her figures. “He decided to step aside because he felt it was important to get the best and brightest to the finish line,” she asserted.
Gonzalez shot back, suggesting that perhaps the Republicans may have misled Crockett into thinking she had a chance, saying, “This is actually what they did to get you running for Senate.” She cryptically insinuated that surveys appeared to suggest she might succeed.
