Mike McDaniel Interviews with Titans Following Dolphins Departure
It seems like the Titans were quick to reach out to former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel about their head coaching opening.
He’s set to interview with the Titans on Wednesday, as reported by NFL Network.
McDaniel and the Dolphins split ways on Thursday after a four-season stint that ended with an unsatisfactory 7-10 record last year.
“After a careful postseason evaluation and extensive discussion, we determined that our organization requires comprehensive change,” said Dolphins owner Stephen Ross in a statement. “This morning, I informed Mike McDaniel that he is being relieved of his position as head coach.”
The Dolphins began the season poorly, starting out at 1-6, with that one win coming against the struggling Jets. However, they managed to finish the season strong, going 6-4 in their last ten games, which included four consecutive victories.
In Week 4, Miami lost standout receiver Tyreek Hill to a season-ending ACL injury against the Jets, which was definitely a tough blow.
Nonetheless, this turnaround was ultimately not enough to secure McDaniel’s job.
Over his tenure, he had a record of 35-33, with two playoff appearances but, notably, no wins in the postseason.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime to coach this team and be a part of this great franchise,” McDaniel stated. “When I took this job, I had a vision for our team to come together, play with passion and energy, and be on our way to winning championships. We gave everything we had to achieve that goal. We’re especially disappointed for our fans that we couldn’t do better on the field, but I’m grateful to all the coaches, players, and staff who worked with me to commit to that vision.”
Meanwhile, Tennessee wrapped up the season with a disappointing 3-14 record after dealing with injuries, including losing rookie quarterback Cam Ward, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ward had impressive stats, throwing for 3,169 yards with 115 touchdowns and only seven interceptions while completing nearly 60% of his passes.
However, the Titans’ offense struggled significantly last season, ranked last in the league for yards per game at 259.6, just slightly better than the Raiders.
Following a rocky start, the Titans let go of head coach Brian Callahan after a 1-5 beginning to the season.
McDaniel might just be viewed as the person capable of unlocking Ward’s potential and steering the Titans back on track.
