Martina Navratilova Critiques ICE Following Fatal Shooting

After a woman was shot and killed by ICE agents in Minnesota recently, Martina Navratilova has taken to social media to express her outrage. She’s made multiple posts on X, criticizing both herself and the actions of ICE agents.

In her messages, Navratilova referred to the death of Lenny Goode as a “murder” and commented that “no one is safe” from ICE, labeling the agents as “sick assholes.” She also shared a statement from Vice President J.D. Vance, which mentioned that Goode had been “lying” about his actions prior to the incident.

In another post, she described ICE as “evil thugs.” Additionally, she shared a remark from John Cleese, the Monty Python veteran, who raised concerns about the appropriateness of hosting the World Cup in a nation where the rule of law seems compromised. Cleese questioned, “Is it a good idea to host a major event like the FIFA World Cup in a country where the rule of law no longer exists?”

Navratilova responded to one user’s comment about the shooting being out of anger rather than fear for life, agreeing by saying, “That’s right.”

The Secretary of Homeland Security stated that Goode was shot while attempting to drive off despite being instructed to exit the vehicle. Kristi Noem described Goode’s actions toward ICE officers before the shooting as “domestic terrorism,” asserting that the agents acted defensively in response to an imminent threat. She emphasized that they fired to protect themselves and those around them.

Democrats have seized upon this incident as an example of unnecessary violence linked to the Trump administration. Hillary Clinton highlighted protests that took place in Minnesota following Goode’s death, marking the event as community outcry against what they labeled a murder.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey openly told ICE to “get out of Minneapolis,” echoing the sentiments of Rep. Ilhan Omar, who insisted the Department of Homeland Security should also exit the city.

At a recent Minnesota Timberwolves game, the audience paused for a moment of silence for Goode, during which chants and shouts against ICE erupted from the crowd.
