Whitney Cummings Critiques Wokeness in America

Whitney Cummings recently shared her views on the contradictions within modern liberalism during an appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. The comedian, who is 43, remarked, “I may not be an expert on politics, but I’m an expert on hypocrisy,” emphasizing how, in her observation, some elements of woke culture seem hypocritical.

Reflecting on her past, Cummings stated, “I was just as liberal. I had blue hair, guys, like I save pit bulls. I don’t think you’ll ever be more liberal than me.” However, she pointed out that the essence of liberalism, which promotes equality and anti-racism, seems to lack a diversity of thought. “That’s hypocrisy,” she added, noting how she has become adept at spotting patterns of this nature, having grown up in an environment where she witnessed similar behaviors.

The comedian elaborated on her thoughts, saying, “I started to feel like, ‘Wait a minute, we don’t believe in gender, but we need a female president. What?'” She raised further questions about the seemingly contradictory beliefs surrounding vaccination and concerns about climate change, pointing out that if one truly believed in rising sea levels, they probably wouldn’t buy property on the coast.

Cummings has previously mentioned her growing disillusionment with leftist ideologies, suggesting that the left isn’t as liberal as it once was and has become, in her opinion, the “party of censorship.” In a different podcast, she likened her relationship with the left to “Stockholm syndrome,” implying that true loyalty involves the capacity for criticism.

Despite her comedic background, Cummings remarked on the troubled state of comedy today. “Obviously, comedy has suffered quite a bit over the last few years,” she said, indicating a shift where comedians now find themselves perceived as adversaries rather than commentators or provocateurs. “It became very obvious that there were some problems in our society,” she added, capturing an ongoing concern in the entertainment landscape.

Cummings began her career on the MTV series “Punk’d” and has since appeared in various films and produced multiple comedy specials, with her latest being “Joke” in 2022. Despite her roots in comedy, she asserted that it has become less of a safe space for expression.
