Rangers Hit Low Point in Boston

On Saturday, the Rangers experienced a significant setback in Boston, one that fans hope is their lowest point of the season.

It’s tough to fathom a worse situation than the recent loss, where the Rangers notably became the first team this season to concede 10 goals in a single game.

As the Olympic break approaches and the March 6 trade deadline looms, the team’s situation seems dire. They’ve lost three consecutive matches and six of their last seven, slipping further down the standings.

If they have any chance to turn things around, it likely needs to start on Monday against Seattle at Madison Square Garden, a venue where they have struggled to secure a win in regulation since late November.

Only Vancouver has recorded fewer home victories this season compared to the Rangers, who have managed just five wins at MSG.

Coach Sullivan addressed the situation post-game, acknowledging that pointing fingers wouldn’t be productive. “It’s all of our fault that we’re where we are,” he remarked, emphasizing the need to identify solutions. “We’re a better team than what we’ve shown, but for some reason, we struggled.”

The absence of key players like Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin due to long-term injuries has undoubtedly affected the team’s performance.

In the game against Boston, goalies Jonathan Quick and Spencer Martin faced overwhelming pressure. The Rangers haven’t secured a victory without Shesterkin since early November.

Coach JT Miller shared some personal responsibility for the outcome, stating that his focus isn’t on making excuses. Rather, he reflected more on the need to respond effectively moving forward. “What matters is how we bounce back on Monday,” Miller added.

Just a week ago, the team felt optimistic after their victory over the Panthers in the Winter Classic, making recent losses all the more disheartening.

Vince Trocheck voiced the need for a fundamental shift in their approach. “We need to reset and start over,” he asserted. “Everything has to change.”

He emphasized the importance of not just moving on from this embarrassing defeat, suggesting that the team should harness those unpleasant feelings to drive improvement.

Sullivan noted that the defense, in particular, needs attention. “It’s about the details,” he explained, reminding everyone that they had shown defensive strength earlier in the season. “We need to get back to being that tough defensive team.”

It’s now up to Sullivan to figure out how to implement these changes and prevent further disastrous outcomes.

On another note, the Rangers announced the recall of Brennan Osman from AHL Hartford, while Anton Breed was assigned back to the Wolfpack. Osman, a first-round pick in 2021, has been performing well, scoring four goals in five recent games. However, he remains without a goal against the Rangers this season.
