Golden Globe Win for “The Pit”

“The Pit” has clinched the 2026 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Drama, outshining contenders like “The Diplomat,” “Pluribus,” “Severance,” “Slow Horse,” and “White Lotus.” Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill accepted the award alongside co-producers John Wells and Noah Wyle, who also took home the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Drama. During his speech, Gemmill emphasized the role of art in promoting collaboration and humanity.

This series has had a stellar awards season, picking up everything from last year’s Emmy Awards for Best Drama, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress to the Critics’ Choice Award just a week ago. Despite the recent successes of Apple TV+, “The Pit” emerged as a leading contender for the Golden Globe. Interestingly, “Pluribus” star Rhea Seehorn won her first Golden Globe shortly before Gemmill’s speech.

Regarding the show’s success in a broader context, Gemmill acknowledged the challenges facing society. “We live in a very divided country and world right now, but I think movies—sometimes I call them TV movies—can really bring us together as communities,” he said.

He continued, highlighting the power of collective effort. “We’re showing what can happen when large groups of people, hundreds really, come together with a common goal to achieve great things.”

Gemmill concluded his remarks by thanking his fellow artists present that night, recognizing the impact of their storytelling. “Your stories truly make a difference. Thank you so much.”

The second season of “The Pit” premiered last Thursday, and HBO Max has already renewed the series for a third season.

The second episode of “The Pit” Season 2 will air on Thursday, January 15th, at 9 PM ET on HBO Max.
