Rob Reiner Remembered at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards
Rob Reiner was commemorated during a heartfelt tribute at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, just weeks after the tragic murder of him and his wife, Michele Reiner.
As the host, Nikki Glazer, wrapped up the event wearing a “Spinal Tap” cap, she cleverly quoted lines from Reiner’s cult classic film in her closing statements.
“That’s our show. This one came in 11th place,” the 41-year-old comedian remarked. “Thank you everyone for a great night. I hope you found the line between smart and stupid.”
In a chat with USA Today earlier, Glazer had hinted at wanting to pay tribute to the beloved director in her own unique way, even mentioning that the program wouldn’t have a formal memorial segment.
“I’m planning something,” she hinted, characterizing her remarks as “sensitive.”
Reiner had a notable career, earning nine Golden Globe nominations. He passed away on December 14, 2025, at home in Brentwood, California, with Michele by his side.
The couple’s youngest son, Nick Reiner, has since been charged with their murders.
His surviving siblings, Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, expressed their devastation in a statement last month, describing their loss as “horrible and devastating.”
“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they shared. “They weren’t just our parents, they were our best friends.”
The siblings extended their gratitude for the outpouring of support, also asking for privacy during this challenging time. “We hope to temper speculation with compassion and humanity, and to remember the wonderful lives our parents lived and the love they gave,” they added.
In images showcased by different media, the couple is depicted enjoying various moments together along the California coastline.
Meanwhile, Nick has made two court appearances lately, the latest being on Wednesday. He hasn’t entered a plea yet, and there was a recent shake-up as his lawyer, Alan Jackson, stepped down from the case.
Nick had reportedly been in the spotlight after attending a Christmas party hosted by Conan O’Brien with his parents, where he and his family reportedly had an argument. It was at this gathering that Rob expressed concerns about his son, saying, “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m scared for my son. I think my own son could hurt me.”
Since the news of their deaths, many celebrities have shared tributes, and several co-stars were moved by the CBS special “Rob Reiner: Scenes from a Lifetime.”
Jerry O’Connell recounted how kind Reiner was to him during the making of the 1986 film “Stand by Me.” “A few months after the movie came out, he took me out to lunch,” O’Connell remembered. “He didn’t have to do that. You know what I’m saying? … He was a busy guy. And he took me to lunch at 12 years old just to say, ‘Thank you so much, that’s a great movie.’”
Reiner’s talent earned him four nominations for Best Director, including for “When Harry Met Sally,” “A Few Good Men,” and “The American President,” as well as additional nominations for his iconic role in “All in the Family.”
