Fans of the Rams had a bit of relief on Monday. It turns out Matthew Stafford’s finger is in decent shape.
Head coach Sean McVay shared with reporters that the quarterback had sustained a sprained index finger during the playoff victory against the Panthers on Saturday, but assured everyone that he would be “okay” for the upcoming divisional matchup with the Bears this weekend.
“He’s tough as nails,” McVay mentioned.
Stafford got injured when his right foot hit DJ Wonnum’s forearm while throwing late in the first half of the Rams’ 34-31 win at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Video replays showed his fingers bending back in a way that didn’t look good, and for a moment, the 37-year-old quarterback appeared to be in pain.
Despite the injury, he managed to wrap up the game with 304 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, yet candidly told reporters afterward that the injury “wasn’t fun.”
“It wasn’t great,” he noted.
A specific kickoff time has yet to be announced for the Los Angeles-Chicago game, but it is confirmed to occur on Sunday.
While the Rams received an encouraging update on Stafford, McVay had to rule out cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon due to an aggravation of a shoulder injury sustained against Carolina.
As for other injured players like offensive lineman Kevin Dotson and tight end Terrence Ferguson, McVay mentioned that they might be available for the game versus the Bears.
