Fairfax County Library Defends Pride-Themed Children’s Book
The Fairfax County Public Library is standing by its choice to include a controversial pride-themed book for kids in its collection.
Recently, the LibsOfTikTok social media account shared a photo of “Grandad’s Pride”, authored by Harry Woodgate. This story revolves around a girl named Millie and her grandfather as they take part in a pride parade.
Images posted by LibsOfTikTok highlighted illustrations from the book showing explicit Pride scenes, including men in bondage attire engaged in affectionate displays.
The post warned, “Inbox: Virginia’s Fairfax County Regional Library (@fairfaxlibrary) is showcasing a book titled ‘Grandad’s Pride’ in the children’s section. It portrays explicit images of men in bondage kissing. Your tax dollars are facilitating this grooming and brainwashing of children.”
According to the Amazon listing, the book is meant for young readers aged three and up.
“When Grandpa and I were young, we attended many Pride parades. We marched, sang, danced, and made a ton of new friends,” reads a passage from the book.
In a dialogue from the story, Millie asks, “Can I go to Pride? I can ride in your camper!” To which her grandfather responds, “Well, my partying days are over. I’m too old, and the city’s too chaotic.” Despite that, the duo decides to host their own pride parade.
Another page in the book features a child holding a sign that reads, “Transgender children are magic.”
As the story continues, it portrays Grandpa, although reluctant, agreeing to present their pride parade idea to the village where they reside.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, the Fairfax County Public Library referenced its “Board Official Policy Manual.” One section emphasizes that the Library’s diverse collections, which may include controversial content, are accessible to everyone. It supports individuals’ rights to access various resources, stating that while parents have the right to guide their children, they also need to respect the rights of other parents.
