On a recent episode of his show, Vince Collanese, the Editor-in-Chief of Daily Caller, proposed that the Clintons should face prison time for not testifying in the investigation concerning the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender.
James Comer, the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, announced that the committee plans to vote on holding Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress due to their absence from pre-scheduled depositions, as reported by ABC News. Collanese suggested that incarcerating the Clintons could serve as a necessary deterrent to prevent future harm to Americans.
“Lock me up. They just charged you to Congress. So what do you do? Now, what’s going to happen? Come on, come on, Republicans,” Collanese remarked, urging action from the Republican Party. “We need to move this forward. From Congress to the Department of Justice, I hope each and every one of you… [Trump administration], find the courage to do what needs to be done to protect our country.”
He expressed a desire to ensure a better future for the next generations, questioning what role lawmakers would play in that mission. “If you’re not going to help, then just step aside,” he added.
On Tuesday, former President Clinton sent a letter to the committee explaining his refusal to testify. In the letter, he claimed that their actions seemed aimed at punishing perceived enemies while safeguarding allies, asserting that this approach detracts from helping the nation. The Clintons emphasized their commitment to defending themselves vigorously against what they see as unjust persecution.
Earlier, on July 23, members of the Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee, including both Republicans and Democrats, unanimously voted to subpoena ten individuals, including the Clintons, for testimony related to alleged crimes involving Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The initial summons was sent out on August 5.
Bill Clinton’s deposition had been requested after October 14 and was rescheduled to December. He declined the December date, citing a funeral. The committee indicated they would accept a specific January date, but he did not propose one. Ultimately, a new summons was issued because sworn testimony is now expected on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton’s testimony was originally set for October 9 but got rescheduled to December 18 due to the same funeral conflict. The committee offered a rescheduling for January if she suggested a date, but that didn’t happen either. Therefore, her deposition is now set for Wednesday.
It’s worth noting that Steve Bannon, a former Trump adviser, was recently convicted of contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena from the January 6 committee and sentenced to four months in prison. Similarly, Peter Navarro faced the same consequences for failing to comply with a subpoena.
