US-Iran Tensions Rise Amid Protester Brutality
President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Iran regarding its violent treatment of dissidents, and some analysts believe that military action might be on the horizon.
The Iranian regime has faced widespread protests against its authoritarian rule, primarily due to severe shortages of water and other essential resources.
The President, on New Year’s Day, indicated that the US would react if Iran continued its pattern of violently suppressing peaceful demonstrators. He stated on social media, “If Iran shoots, and if they violently kill peaceful protesters, which is their habit, the United States will come to their aid. We are locked, loaded, and ready to go.”
Since that warning, the regime is said to have killed hundreds, with estimates suggesting that the toll could exceed a thousand casualties.
Recently, some social media analysts noted a potential build-up of US military assets that could point to preparations for an attack. Reports indicated that several KC-135R/T aerial refueling tankers have been leaving a Qatari base as part of a wider military repositioning involving Al Udeid Air Base.
Another source reflected on prior military activity, suggesting that a similar evacuation occurred before a previous US strike aimed at Iran’s nuclear facilities last June.
Speculators have shared concerns that they might have insider knowledge about the regime’s plans, putting large sums of money on the possibility of an imminent US attack on Iran.
Moreover, some pointed to a major outage affecting Verizon Wireless, with over 113,000 customers losing service around 9 a.m. ET, as another sign of rising tensions. A spokesperson for Verizon acknowledged the issue and assured that engineers were working to resolve it.
Interestingly, the Pentagon Pizza Index—a light-hearted gauge of military readiness—showed only a slight uptick in pizza deliveries to the Pentagon, used here to roughly gauge ongoing military actions. On Wednesday afternoon, some pizzerias reported high order volumes while others experienced lower activity.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) also reiterated US threats to Iran, suggesting that the overthrow of the Ayatollah would increase security for both America and the broader world. He made a somewhat provocative comment, saying, “May the Death to America crowd see 72 Virgins tonight.”
On the Iranian side, Major General Mohammad Pakpour, leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, asserted that Iran was prepared to counter any provocations from Israel or the United States, emphasizing the necessity of unity among the Iranian people.
