Yungblud Defends Iranian Protesters During Melbourne Concert

On January 13, British singer Yungblud made headlines for passionately supporting the Iranian people during a performance in Melbourne, Australia.

Standing shirtless before the audience, he took a moment to address the situation in Iran. “Two years ago, I spoke about a girl named Martha Amini from Iran who was murdered because she wasn’t wearing a hijab,” he recalled. “And while questioning someone’s religion isn’t really my place, it’s essential to recognize that this community is fighting for equality and liberation globally.”

Continuing his fervent message, he expressed concern for the Iranian protesters. “What’s happening in Iran? This revolution is being led by women—who’ve had their internet cut off for four days, left in the dark without electricity,” he exclaimed. “They need our voices. We must be their light now!”

Yungblud urged his fans to take action, rallying for their support. “Speak! Shout! Post! They are fighting for freedom,” he encouraged.

“They are fighting for their freedom, and they are fighting for our freedom, because no one is free until we are all completely free!” he proclaimed, eliciting cheers from the crowd.

The reaction on social media was swift, with many fans expressing their agreement and support for Yungblud’s message.

Since becoming a theocracy in 1979 following the overthrow of the Shah, Iran is witnessing significant unrest. Protests have erupted in numerous cities as citizens voice their discontent with the Islamic government. The government’s response has included internet blackouts, mass arrests, and violent crackdowns on demonstrators.
