Nassau County Burglary: Dog Taken from Young Girl
A teenager in Nassau County had a frightening encounter while walking her dog late Tuesday night, as a suspect, identified as 29-year-old Keem Lowther, allegedly took the pet from her. This incident unfolded just hours after Lowther had been released on unrelated charges.
The girl, who is 15, was reportedly out for an evening stroll with her brown American bully around 10:45 p.m. on Colonial Road near Grenada Street in Roosevelt. While she was walking, Lowther, who was in the passenger seat of a Mercedes, began to confront her about her dog.
In a moment of fear, the girl reached out to her father for guidance on how to respond to Lowther. That’s when Lowther seized the dog’s leash and attempted to pull it away. Despite her efforts to keep her hold on the pet, it became increasingly difficult, and eventually, Lowther managed to detach the leash from the dog’s collar.
In an alarming turn, Lowther then tossed the dog over his shoulder and ducked inside a nearby house, slamming the door behind him.
Officers quickly surrounded the home, and shortly after, they apprehended Lowther when he exited. He now faces charges of third-degree robbery and endangering the welfare of a child.
Fortunately, the dog was returned unharmed to the girl. It’s worth noting that Lowther isn’t a stranger to law enforcement; detectives recognized him from a previous arrest just a day earlier.
On Monday, Lowther had been arrested for a third-degree assault related to an incident dating back to October 28 and was released on his own recognizance the following morning.
During his arraignment for the dog-napping incident, the judge released him again under non-monetary conditions, which included a directive to avoid contact with the victim. Lowther is set to appear in court again on January 27th.
