Stepparent’s Reflection on Shooting Incident Involving Renee Good
On Tuesday, Timmy Macklin, the former stepfather of Renee Good, shared his thoughts regarding her recent shooting death in Minneapolis. He expressed that he does not hold U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) responsible for the tragic incident.
Macklin described the situation as “tough overall” and mentioned that there were “some bad choices” involved. “I don’t blame ICE. I don’t blame Rebecca. And I certainly don’t blame Renee,” he stated, conveying a sense of personal reflection.
He further expressed a hope that if there had been a stronger commitment to faith, perhaps the incident wouldn’t have occurred. Good was married to Macklin’s son, who passed away in 2023, and they have a six-year-old son together.
Rebecca Macklin remembered Good as a “wonderful person,” highlighting her vibrancy and dedication as a mother. Macklin voiced concerns about the choices people are making today, suggesting a collective confusion and the need for spiritual guidance.
When asked by CNN anchor Erin Burnett if he found the shooting justified, he remained neutral, asserting, “I’m not blaming anyone.” He noted that a witness had recorded cellphone footage showing the incident from the perspective of Good’s vehicle hitting the ICE officer.
During the incident, Good was driving an SUV when the shooting occurred, with two immigration officers involved in the arrest. Macklin remarked on the difficulty of reaction in such heated moments, recalling hearing that an agent might have been injured in a past encounter.
On Wednesday, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin confirmed that the ICE officer had sustained internal bleeding after being struck by the vehicle. Federal authorities characterized the officers’ response as self-defense, even labeling the episode as domestic terrorism, though this assertion faced pushback from Democratic officials.
