Adrian Stubbs Achieves Historic Milestone in Arizona High School Basketball

On an unforgettable evening, Adrian Stubbs, a talented guard from Phoenix Maryvale High School, made Arizona high school basketball history. During a game against Yuma Coffa High School, he scored an astonishing 100 points, leading his team to a remarkable 109-25 victory. Notably, he achieved this incredible feat while sitting out the entire fourth quarter.

In the first half alone, Stubbs racked up 70 points, accounting for all of Maryvale’s scoring before adding another 30 in the third quarter. During the opening quarter, he had an impressive 35 points, after which head coach Jeremy Smith gave him the green light to push for the record.

“At the end of the first quarter, I think it was about 35 points. Coach just encouraged us to keep going,” Stubbs shared. “The team was so unselfish. I couldn’t have done this without them—thanks to all those assists and steals. Really, huge shout out to my teammates.”

Stubbs broke the previous Arizona record of 75 points that had stood since the 1965-66 1A season. Interestingly, prior to this game, his personal best was 56 points, just shy of the 6A record, which represents the largest school classification.

Maryvale coach Jeremy Smith couldn’t help but praise his standout player, saying, “This kid always amazes me. His drive, grit, and determination are unmatched. He has a whole lot of people cheering for him and wanting him to succeed. He’s a competitor. At the start of the season, he set team goals along with personal ones, and breaking Nico Mannion’s record of 57 was among them.”

Stubbs was exceptionally efficient during the game, scoring an average of 24 points per game. Most of his points came from mid-range jumpers and he was 16-of-23 from the free-throw line, although his 3-point shooting was less successful at 18-of-100.
