Victor Davis Hanson Provides Recovery Update
Jack Fowler, co-host of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” recently shared insights on Victor Davis Hanson’s ongoing recovery after his significant cancer surgery, which included some unexpected complications.
Back in December, the 72-year-old commentator and academic revealed he would require surgery following concerning biopsy results. Earlier this month, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice provided an update, but Hanson’s more recent comments offer deeper details about his health journey.
Hanson noted that although his initial surgery was successful, he experienced an “unexplained arterial bleed” during recovery, necessitating further surgery. He felt fortunate that the medical team was able to address the issue swiftly.
Gratitude for Support
He expressed heartfelt appreciation for both the Stanford medical team and the supporters who prayed for his recovery. “I want to thank all of you who shared your thoughts and prayers,” he shared. “Over the last two weeks, I’ve been re-reading your messages, and I can’t express enough how much hope and encouragement you’ve given me.”
Hanson mentioned he is on the mend after the lung cancer operation, although he is currently tackling aftereffects from the prolonged anesthesia, blood loss, and some cardiac irregularities, which manifest as fatigue and weakness. He hopes to regain his strength and return to work soon.
He shared that tests indicated no signs of malignancy in surrounding lymph nodes and that a full-body scan did not reveal any metastases. Nonetheless, he is preparing for potential chemotherapy as a precaution against recurrence.
“I can’t thank you all enough for your kindness. I was truly blown away. I’m focusing on recovering and hope to connect with you all again on the podcast and other platforms,” Hanson concluded.
