Kristi Noem appoints Charles Wall as the deputy director of ICE.

New Deputy Director of ICE Announced

On Thursday, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem revealed via X that Charles Wall, a seasoned attorney with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has been appointed as the agency’s new deputy director. This change comes as enforcement actions increase nationwide.

Noem stated, “Effective immediately, Charles Wall will serve as Deputy Director of @ICEGov.” She noted that Wall previously held the role of Chief General Counsel at ICE and was instrumental in achieving significant outcomes, particularly in apprehending and deporting serious criminal illegal aliens from various neighborhoods in America.

Wall steps into this position following the resignation of Madison Sheehan, who left earlier on Thursday to run for a seat in the Ohio House. Her departure marks a transitional phase for ICE leadership, which is currently facing heightened scrutiny and challenges regarding enforcement operations and threats to its officers.

This leadership change aligns with the Trump administration’s focus on intensifying immigration enforcement against serious offenders, such as murderers and gang members, even as some local governments and activist groups seek to obstruct ICE’s efforts.

ICE officials highlighted Wall’s extensive experience, stating he has worked with the agency for over a decade. “Mr. Wall has been an ICE attorney for 14 years and is a strategic thinker who understands that prioritizing the removal of dangerous individuals from our country is essential,” Noem remarked.

Previously, Wall managed a team of over 3,500 attorneys and support staff as Chief Legal Counsel for ICE, representing DHS in removal proceedings and advising senior leadership. He has been with ICE since 2012 and had a senior consulting role in New Orleans before that.

This appointment reflects a broader objective to align ICE’s leadership with the administration’s public safety agenda. Notably, ICE’s activities have gained national attention in light of recent protests connected to an incident involving the agency in Minneapolis earlier this month.

Administration officials assert that ICE remains concentrated on targeting the “worst of the worst” among criminal illegal aliens, though they acknowledge that increasing local resistance and political challenges complicate the work of officers.

Noem expressed her eagerness to collaborate with Wall in his new capacity, stating, “I look forward to working with him in his new role to make America safe again.” At the moment, ICE has not provided any additional comments regarding this announcement.
