Maria Colina Machado Presents Nobel Peace Prize to Trump
Maria Colina Machado, a prominent figure in the Venezuelan opposition, recently shared her feelings about presenting an honorary Nobel Peace Prize to former President Donald Trump during an interview with “Fox & Friends.” She described the moment as extremely emotional, stating, “He deserves it,” when speaking to co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy.
Machado conveyed that she presented the award on behalf of the Venezuelan people, commending Trump for his role in liberating Venezuela from the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am so grateful for what he has done not only for the freedom of the Venezuelan people, but for the freedom of the entire hemisphere.”
In a related note, Trump mentioned that Venezuela would promptly deliver millions of barrels of oil to the U.S. government.
As a long-standing critic of Maduro, Machado has been vocal about her support for Trump’s actions against the Venezuelan leader, even discussing their collaboration on a historic scale. Trump appeared quite pleased, remarking on Truth Social, “Today, I had the great honor of meeting Maria Colina Machado of Venezuela. Maria presented me with the Nobel Peace Prize for all my accomplishments. It’s a great expression of mutual respect.”
Though Machado had talked about presenting the award in an earlier interview on “Hannity,” the Norwegian Nobel Institute recently clarified that such an award cannot be shared or transferred once announced. They emphasized that their decision is permanent.
While the formal transfer of the Nobel Prize isn’t possible, Machado chose to present the honor to Trump during their meeting. Trump has previously asserted his qualifications for the Nobel Peace Prize, suggesting, amusingly, that he should receive one for each conflict he has ended. “You know, if you’re going to have eight wars, theoretically you should get one for each war,” he commented during a talk with Fox News.
Machado also recounted her recent visit to the White House where she met Trump, sharing her joy about the opportunity. “It went really well,” she reflected. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to speak with President Trump. This is something I have been looking forward to for a long time.” Representing her country was a significant responsibility for her.
