Henry Winkler Discusses Aging and Friendship with Adam Sandler
During the recent AARP Adult Film Awards, 80-year-old actor Henry Winkler shared his insights with Fox News Digital about the treatment of older generations in the U.S. and beyond.
“America seems to be the only place where older individuals haven’t been fully embraced. That’s where the wisdom lies, I believe. I’ve certainly learned a lot from them,” he remarked.
Winkler also reflected on his friendship with Adam Sandler, describing how they first connected.
“It all started when I called to thank him for including me in his ‘Hanukkah Song.’ He then invited me to appear in ‘The Waterboy,’ and from there, I ended up working with him on four or five other films,” Winkler recounted.
He humorously added, “I should really talk to him again. It’s been a while since he’s asked me to join him.” His light-heartedness brought a chuckle, as he pretended to leave the conversation.
Winkler went on to highlight the depth of Sandler’s character. “Adam is genuinely all-encompassing. He has this cosmic aura about him. It would be hard to overstep him,” he noted.
Sandler, who also walked the red carpet for AARP’s “Movies for Adults,” shared a humorous take on parenting. “I really had no clue, but I made sure they cleaned up the counter before I headed out,” he joked about his daughters, Sunny and Sadie, whom he shares with wife Jackie.
AARP honored Sandler with their adult film awards this year.
Winkler and Sandler collaborated on notable projects such as “The Waterboy” and “Click.” In “The Waterboy,” Sandler played the lead role of Bobby Boucher while Winkler took on the character of Coach Klein. Sandler also starred as Michael Newman in “Click,” with Winkler portraying Michael’s father.
Winkler’s filmography dates back to 1973 when he appeared on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show.’ He became a household name in the beloved series “Happy Days,” which aired from 1974 to 1984. His subsequent works include “Arrested Development,” “Royal Pains,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Barry.”
Currently, Winkler is working on the film “Rolling Loud,” directed by Jeremy Garerick, which also features Owen Wilson.
