Brooklyn Man Confesses to Grandmother’s Stabbing
A 22-year-old man from Brooklyn has reportedly confessed to stabbing his grandmother, Julia Boomer, who was 85. Shortly after the victim was found, he allegedly told his mother, “I killed my grandma,” as detailed in a criminal complaint.
Jackson King appeared in court on Saturday, facing murder charges related to Boomer’s death, which occurred on January 13. In a rather disheveled state, he entered the courtroom handcuffed, with unkempt hair and dressed in black sweatpants, white socks, and slip-on shoes. He entered a not guilty plea.
During the arraignment before Judge Elizabeth Wallin, King communicated with his attorney, but he didn’t make any additional comments regarding the allegations of murder and weapons possession.
His defense attorney, Matt Collette, requested medical and psychiatric care for King, who has been hospitalized since the incident. This raises questions about his mental state, which could be a factor in the case.
The prosecution, represented by Taylor Lupi, urged the judge to deny bail, leading to King being remanded to Rikers Island.
The incident transpired just before 10 p.m. on January 13 at the home King shared with Boomer on Throop Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Authorities reported that Boomer’s daughter made the grim discovery of her mother’s multiple stab wounds. Despite being rushed to Kings County Hospital in critical condition, she was unable to survive.
While police indicated that the stabbing stemmed from a domestic dispute, the specific motive remains unclear.
Sources reveal that King has prior arrests for grand theft and criminal contempt, bringing additional attention to his troubled past.
This case marks the first homicide in the NYPD’s 79th Precinct this year, according to police records.
