Melissa Gilbert Supports Timothy Busfield Amid Child Abuse Charges

Melissa Gilbert is standing by her husband, Timothy Busfield, as he faces serious charges related to child sexual abuse. The actress, known for her role in “Little House on the Prairie,” has been named as a potential defense witness according to court documents filed recently.

These documents include Busfield’s response against the state’s request for pretrial detention and mention 13 potential witnesses, one of whom is Gilbert. Alongside her endorsement, she also submitted a letter to the judge, which contained numerous letters of support from family and friends.

In her letter, Gilbert, who married Busfield in 2013, reflected on their journey together, noting that they first met in the 1980s but only fell in love years later in 2012. She described him as her love and a vital part of her life, emphasizing how he brings joy and humor to their family.

Gilbert asserts that she knows Busfield “better and more intimately than anyone” and paints him as a compassionate person with a strong moral compass. She believes that he has always dedicated himself to helping others and leads with kindness every day.

Additionally, Gilbert highlighted how well-respected Busfield is within the entertainment industry, recalling how many have approached her to share their admiration for him. She noted that people often express he is their “favorite director of all time,” which speaks volumes about his professional reputation.

Furthermore, she acknowledged Busfield’s meaningful relationship with her youngest son, Michael, mentioning that he has provided him with guidance and support throughout his life.

Throughout the letter, Gilbert reflected on how Busfield’s military background influenced his values, which she believes reinforced his commitment to compassion and integrity.

As the letter drew to a close, Gilbert expressed the emotional weight of her words, stating how difficult it was to write to the court. She ended by asking the judge to take care of her husband, revealing her deep sense of helplessness during this trying time.

Busfield was arrested on January 9, and allegations date back to an investigation initiated in November 2024, following a report from a doctor who suspected sexual abuse. Two 11-year-old twins have claimed they were inappropriately touched on set by a director they were instructed to call “Uncle Tim.”

Busfield is currently being held without bail and is set to appear in court later this month.
