49ers Cornerback Lenoir Headbutts Seahawks Receiver in Frustrating Loss

Deomodore Lenoir, the cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers, let his frustration boil over during Saturday’s regional round as he headbutted Seattle Seahawks receiver Jackson Smith-Njiba in the third quarter. It was a moment of palpable emotion, reflecting the overall disappointment of the 49ers in the game.

After the play, Lenoir approached Smith-Njiba and struck him with his helmet, though the officials did not call a penalty. The Seahawks ultimately dominated the game, winning 41-6 and securing a spot in the NFC Championship Game.

Lenoir, picked in the fifth round of the 2021 draft, may face a fine even though he had only contributed three catches for 19 yards and a touchdown. Interestingly, no flag was thrown during the game for his actions against Smith-Njiba.

Meanwhile, Canaan, Smith-Njiba’s younger brother, took to social media to share his thoughts about the incident, remarking, “Jax always wanted his little brother to be bullied. Welcome to the family,” which added a somewhat lighthearted twist to an otherwise intense moment.

As the game unfolded, the 49ers found themselves in deep trouble early on, trailing by 18 points at halftime and 28 by the end of the third quarter. Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III had an impressive game, rushing for 116 yards and scoring three touchdowns, while quarterback Sam Darnold managed to throw a touchdown pass despite dealing with an oblique injury.

Injuries were a significant issue for the 49ers throughout the season, and they were missing crucial players going into the playoffs, including tight end George Kittle and edge rusher Nick Bosa. After the game, Lenoir expressed that had the team been fully healthy, they might have won decisively against their NFC West rival.

“It’s going to be a completely different game when they come back,” he said. “But I mean, there’s no excuses. We had enough players here to get the job done, so I feel like it didn’t go in our favor today.”

Smith-Njiba, who led the NFL in receiving yards during the regular season, will now host the winner of the upcoming matchup between the Bears and Rams in the NFC Championship Game next Sunday.
