Chicago Bears Face Disappointment in Overtime Loss

In a tense moment during the divisional round of the 2026 NFL Playoffs, Caleb Williams had a chance to guide the Chicago Bears to victory. With the game in overtime and the Bears in field goal range, Williams aimed for DJ Moore, throwing a 25-yard pass along the right sideline. However, Rams cornerback Kamren Karl anticipated the play, intercepting the ball. This play marked the end of the Bears’ season.

The Rams took full advantage, driving down the field to kick a 42-yard field goal, sealing a 20-17 victory. This outcome capped off a remarkable season for the Bears, who had clinched several games in dramatic fashion prior. Now, the Rams are set to face the Seattle Seahawks next week in the NFC Championship Game.

Earlier in the game, Williams delivered an impressive throw that allowed the Bears to force overtime, connecting with Cole Kmet in the end zone under pressure with just 18 seconds left in regulation. Yet, after that miraculous play, the Bears were unable to capitalize. Williams threw his third interception of the night, paving the way for the Rams’ winning drive.

After the game, discussions in Chicago shifted to Moore’s effort on the final pick. Could he have run harder to prevent the interception? It raised some eyebrows, especially considering his recent history of lackluster efforts on routes. While some might say he gave up too soon, others believe that the play call itself was questionable, suggesting that the Bears could have played it safer in that situation.

Though it’s conceivable that a more committed run from Moore might have changed the outcome, the Bears’ offense had other opportunities that they failed to convert. Moore did have a good game analytically, catching Williams’ first touchdown and finishing with five receptions for 52 yards, including a pivotal score against the Packers in a previous round.

Still, opinions vary on the nature of the interception. Hall of Fame receiver Terrell Owens seemed to place the blame on Moore rather than Williams, a stance echoed by some frustrated Bears fans.

Williams, for his part, attributed the interception to a miscommunication with Moore, choosing not to criticize his teammate’s effort. Personally, I think that even with Moore’s best intentions on that last play, the throw may still have stretched just beyond his reach. But it does beg the question—why not give everything until the last whistle?

As the offseason approaches, the Bears can take pride in their achievements this past year. They’ve shown they have what it takes to compete at high levels, particularly with the heroics exhibited by Williams. However, one area for improvement is definitely their pass rush to enhance their chances next season.

What a heartbreaking way to conclude the season. This loss will undoubtedly linger in the minds of the Bears and their fans throughout the offseason.
