Rangers Continue Struggles in Loss to Kings

LOS ANGELES — The Rangers have not shown opportunistic play right from the season’s onset.

At times, luck hasn’t favored them. It feels like they might be struggling because of how others are performing. Their execution is, well, sometimes hit-or-miss—definitely not as consistent as they would prefer.

In Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the Kings, the Blueshirts missed a few critical chances that could have turned the game for them, marking their 10th failure to advance past the Round of 12.

Though they held a one-point lead, their chance on a 5-on-3 power play slipped away just a minute and thirty-six seconds in.

A misstep near the net sent a player crashing into the goal, failing to clear the puck effectively.

Even when the Rangers seemed to have the momentum early in the third, they couldn’t translate that into goals until it was too late.

As things stand, the Rangers have one win and two losses on this road trip, with one last stop in San Jose.

They faced a tough loss in their earlier matchup.

The Rangers’ trademark of simply dumping the puck into the offensive zone backfired, allowing the Kings to rush down the ice. Just 18 seconds in, Adrian Kempe netted a goal after executing a quick give-and-go with Brant Clark.

Poor management of the puck was again a key factor in their loss, impacting them early on Tuesday night.

Scott Morrow tied the game with a shot that hit Will Quill, prompting a swift response from the Rangers.

Just moments after being honored with a tribute at Crypto.com Arena, Vladislav Gavrikov set up Kevin Fiala for another Kings goal, giving them a 2-1 lead.

Mika Zibanejad continued to shine, contributing significantly to the offense. His point streak has reached ten games—he’s racked up nine goals and ten assists during this span.

Darcy Kuemper left the match by the end of the first period after stopping a breakaway from Johnny Brodzinski, leading to Anton Forsberg stepping in for the remainder of the game.

The Kings managed to score two more goals in the second, while the Rangers failed to capitalize on what seemed like a golden opportunity.

Braden Schneider had a rough patch in the second period, inadvertently assisting the Kings’ 3-2 goal before taking back-to-back penalties. The puck deflected off his stick, allowing Taylor Ward to seize the moment at 4:23.

Despite failing to convert on a 5-on-3, the Rangers again couldn’t clear the puck late in the period, allowing Andrei Kuzmenko to score a rebound for a two-point lead going into the second intermission.
