Cameron Kasky Apologizes for Controversial Comments about Trump
Gun control activist Cameron Kasky issued an apology on Tuesday for remarks made on CNN that suggested President Donald Trump was involved in a “human trafficking network.” He clarified that his statement was “coincidental and unintentional.”
Kasky participated in a panel on “CNN Newsnight,” discussing Trump’s interest in Greenland and its link to the Nobel Peace Prize. During this segment, Kasky made questionable claims that weren’t immediately challenged.
“I would welcome more transparency regarding the sex trafficking network he was part of, but it seems you can’t win everything,” Kasky stated.
CNN host John Berman, who was subbing for Abby Phillip, didn’t correct Kasky’s remarks right away, which led conservative panelist Scott Jennings to ask, “Are you seriously going to suggest that the president is part of a global sex trafficking operation?”
Berman responded, “We’ll touch on the Epstein file, Scott, and address the facts.” He later invited Kasky, who survived the 2018 Parkland school shooting and is a prominent advocate for gun control, to elaborate on his claims.
“It’s been shown that Donald Trump was deeply involved in it,” Kasky asserted.
However, Berman retorted, “Let’s be clear: Donald Trump has never been charged with any crime in relation to Jeffrey Epstein.” Kasky attempted to bolster his argument, saying, “Let’s consider this seriously,” but Berman moved the discussion along.
The day after the interview, Kasky offered a formal apology, stating, “I would like to retract and sincerely apologize for my comments on CNN last night. Donald Trump is clearly not involved in a vast international child sex trafficking ring. It was a mistake to say that, and I did not mean to imply it.”
A representative for Trump’s legal team has yet to provide a statement regarding the matter, and CNN also hasn’t responded to inquiries about the incident.
